On June 14, Cole Hamels, the laid-back starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, came through for his community. Hamels, along with his wife, donated a total of $200,000 to 17 Philadelphia public schools through his charity, The Hamels Foundation. The Foundation, created in 2008, is dedicated to bringing an end to extreme poverty and hardship endured by lack of educational support.
Through this donation, Swenson Arts & Technology High School, which has been using the technical school’s auto-repair shop as a gym, will receive a new fitness center. Another school, a new library. Lives changed.
Said Cole of the donation, “It’s just the way I was brought up. It’s all my parents ever asked of me – just to be a good example.”
