Hamlin A Shining Star In The Community

Unless you really pay attention to winter sports or the Winter Olympics, you probably haven’t heard of Erin Hamlin.  Hamlin is the current National Luge Champion, and also won the gold medal at the 2009 World Luge Championships.  Erin is involved very heavily in the local community here in Utica, New York.  Her current fundraising campaign is to bring the Slider Search (the luge equivalent of the various developmental programs the Olympic sports have) back to Central New York so that kids who are in the same position that Erin was at age 12 will be able to learn about the sport of luge and potentially get involved with the National Team.Erin is also heavily involved with the Sitrin STARSprogram, participating every year in their charity basketball game to raise money for people who are bound to wheelchairs to be able to participate in athletic competitions such as basketball, curling, and wheelchair racing.  In the past, Erin also participated in the relief efforts in Haiti, and participated in the “I Compete Clean” campaign funded by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. For her relentless work in the community, we here at The Good In Sports would like to award U.S. Olympian Erin Hamlin a Gold Star and look forward to Erin having a rebound season in 2011-12 for the U.S. Luge team.

About TF

Author of Word On The Farm sports blog. I have been a lifelong fan of all major professional sports based in Boston (Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins) as well as Duke basketball and Notre Dame football. I am also a long time WWE wrestling fan (and yes blog on that on occasion as well). The past two years I have been in school so my attention has been away from blogging, however with the move to WordPress I plan on moving back in that direction.
