NEW YORK — Some run the marathon to win. Some run to say they did. Thousands run it for their respective charities. Olympic Gold Medal winning softball pitcher, Jennie Finch, started at the back of the pack and earned money for every person she passed for the New York Road Runners youth programs. Apolo Ohno, Gold Medal winning speed skater, ran to raise money for the Special Olympics. Former NHL’er Mark Messier did double-duty for two very worthy causes, as he ran for Tomorrow’s Children Fund, benefiting cancer victims and their families. He also ran for a charity that benefits wives and widows of the September 11 attacks and all first responders. For more info check out: www.nyrr.org www.specialolympics.org www.atcfkid.com
