Astros Urban Youth Academy Hosts Free Softball Clinic

Via the Astros: On Saturday, August 27 the Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy (UYA) will conduct a free softball clinic for girls in fifth through eighth grades. Texas Southern University softball staff and players will assist in conducting the clinic along with UYA staff and area coaches. Houston Mayor Annise Parker is scheduled to visit the academy from 10:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. to encourage the young girls as they work to become better players and better teammates.  Held at the UYA at Sylvester Turner Park located at 2700 West Little York Rd., the clinic will be on fields three and four and is open to the public. Onsite registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the clinic will run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.   The clinic will introduce girls to the game of softball and all its benefits while further developing the skills of those with softball experience.  All girls that sign up and attend will become members of the Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy and be eligible for all the UYA has to offer including free year-round softball instruction, academic tutoring, camps, clinics and much more. For more info, visit the UYA website or call 281-960-9166.
