LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Laker formerly known as Ron Artest, recently gave up that name to take on the name Metta World Peace, but that’s not the only thing he gave away; Peace recently donated $285,000 to mental health facilities across the nation after his own struggle with his mental health as a young boy. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Peace stated, “When I was a kid, I did see a counselor. My mom helped me out, she realized I was having problems when I was 13 years old. She realized I was going through a lot.” He may be best known for his emotional celebration after the Lakers’ win over the Celtics in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Championships when he thanked his therapist for help. Peace has committed to giving away $500,000 from money raised by the raffling of his 2010 Championship ring.
