Texas Rangers Headed to the ALCS

The Texas Rangers became the first team to stamp their ticket to a Championship Series by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Tuesday in St. Petersburg. Texas won the best of five series by a tally of  three games to one.

The hero of Tuesday’s clincher was Adrian Beltre, who signed with the Rangers during the off-season.  Beltre, who entered the game hitting 1-11 in the series, proceeded to go 3-4 with three home runs in today’s contest.  Beltre is now the sixth player in Major League history to hit three home runs in a post-season game (Others: Adam Kennedy, ANA 10/13/02, George Brett, KC 10/06/78, Reggie Jackson, NYY 10/18/77, Bob Robertson, PIT 10/03/71, Babe Ruth, NYY 10/09/28 and Babe Ruth, NYY 10/06/26).

Neftali Feliz recorded a save in each of three Rangers victories during this series.

  1. That’s a great trivia question – what 6 players have hit 3 dingers in a playoff game. Adam Kennedy & Bob Robertson – only Angels, Pirates (and hard core baseball) fans would know that one.

    Would have liked to see small market Rays advance, but Rangers definitely the better offensive team. With an underrated pitching staff.
