Pittsburgh Pirates Charities Break Ground on Miracle League Field

The philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates Charities, announced they have teamed up with Easter Seals and Wheeling-based partners to break ground on the “Miracle Field of the Ohio Valley” in Wheeling, West Virginia. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 3, 2011. This field is the fourth in the tri-state region that Pirates Charities have offered a helping hand in.

“As an organization, the Pirates and Pirates Charities could not be more proud to join as partners and play a part in the construction of the Miracle League Field of the Ohio Valley. The Miracle League Program is a special program and one that is near to our hearts,” said Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting. “We are honored and humbled to see the positive impact that these fields have made and will make on so many youths throughout the region. While today is an exciting day, nothing will be more rewarding for me personally than to see the smiles on the faces of these children as their proud parents and loved ones look on when the umpire yells ‘play ball.’”

Pirates Charities was founded in 2006 and has since then contributed more than $2.4 million for special projects in Pittsburgh, Bradenton, Florida, and Estorga, Dominican Republic communities.

The Good in Sports salutes the Pirates as they continue to help make dreams come true while having a positive impact in many communities!

About Sam Sankovich

I am a native of Illinois, but have lived all over. Since high school, I have lived in Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, Kansas and Ohio. At the moment I am back in Illinois but hope a move back to Florida is in my near future. The first thing people think is I am a Cubs fan and a Bears fan. That’s not true. My dad’s family was born and raised in Pennsylvania (just south of Pittsburgh) and I was raised to be a fan of the Pirates and Steelers. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2002 with a BA degree. I majored in Radio and Television Operations and minored in Lodging Management. At this point of my life, I am following my dream of having a career in sports and love working with Joe and the team at The Good in Sports. The mission of the website and vision is second-to-none and allows us to make a difference in the lives of others. That’s important to me. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, I make it to Pittsburgh once a year to watch baseball at “The Best Ballpark in America” (PNC Park). I also enjoy trips to Panama City Beach for relaxation. I have a terrific family who always supports me in my endeavors. You can find me on Twitter, @TGIS_Sam.
