The Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers were back in Texas Saturday night for game six of the American League Championship Series. Texas came in with a three games to two lead, which meant the Tigers would need to win, or their season would be over. Detroit got on the board in the first inning courtesy of a Miguel Cabrera home run to right. They added another in the second when Jhonny Peralta homered to right. Things were going great for the Tigers until the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the third the Rangers bats woke up and did so with a vengeance. The Rangers sent fourteen batters to the plate, picked up six hits and four walks on their way to a nine run inning. This would be more than enough to put the game away.
Detroit was able to put three more runs on the board, but it was not enough. The Rangers scored six more times, with two RBI’s belonging to the ALCS MVP, Nelson Cruz (Mr. October). In the seventh, Cruz hit his sixth home run of the series.
The Rangers now await the conclusion of the National League Championship Series to see who they will play in their second consecutive World Series.
ALCS Stat of the Day:
- Nelson Cruz hit six home runs during the series and had 13 RBI’s, both are postseason series records.
